If you’re a box score aficionado, who likes to follow along with the ACL Giants’ progress by proxy of the Gameday app, you might have encountered a shock yesterday. At the beginning of the Giants’ complex game, a box score was listed featuring Josuar Gonzalez returning to the field — but oddly, playing in right field and batting seventh in the order. Over in the “Live Summary” tab that accompanies the box, we even had Josuar bouncing into an inning-ending double play to end the second.

If so, you were no doubt confused — or, if you’re one of those who anticipates the Giants resolving their middle infield glut by moving speedy youngsters to the outfield, possibly triumphant.

Rest easy, however. Though I do expect Gonzalez to return to the field relatively soon, he was not manning right field for the Giants last night. Rather, this was simply the result of an operator error by the MiLB stringer on site to record the game — from the drop-down menu, apparently, they clicked on “0” instead of “10” (Carlos Concepcion), and there’s a chance that Giants twitter blew up briefly as a result. It was soon fixed, and the slight blip in time left no trace behind it, unless you happened to be taking an EKG upon first seeing the box score. Ah, the potential for miscommunication when filtering reality through our abstracted lens.

HITTER of the NIGHT: Nate Furman (Sac), 4 for 6, 2b, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Santiago Guerrero (DSLGB),
4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Most of the first half playoff chasing is over at this point (with one big exception), but this is no time to let down focus or energy. The task of self-improvement never ceases. Let’s get to work!
