This Photo Is What’s Known as a Tease!
A mea culpa to start things out. On a recent KROG podcast, Kerry mentioned that I must have seen triple plays in all of my time at minor league games, and I said that I couldn’t think of a one (have seen minor league no hitters though)! That’s still true, but there was a triple play in a minor league game on Wednesday night! And I totally missed it! Apparently, I was overly eager to get to what I took to be the Eugene Emeralds’ more eventful 9th inning and skipped right passed the rare deed!
Anyway, here it is in all its glory — and indeed, this is as nicely as you can turn it, so congratulations to Thomas Gavello, Quinn McDaniel, and Andrew Kachel. That’s a heck of a moment to have on any baseball field (Kachel, of course, would have another pretty special one just minutes later)!
We’ll just ignore for the time being that the call at 1b….uh….might not have stood up to a replay challenge. That’s ok! Don’t have those here. It’s a triple play in the record books! (Although, we should remember this missed call for later).
HITTER of the NIGHT: Carter Howell (Rich), 3 for 6, HR (1), 2b, 4 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Landen Roupp (Sac), 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K
Roupp! Roupp! Let’s get it going!
