For the next couple of weeks we’ll be examining the major cases of Rule 5 protection candidates, to see who the Giants might choose to add to the 40-man roster this year. The Rule 5 protection deadline this year is November 19. So far in the Rule 5 Decisions series, we’ve looked at:

  • Setting Up the Rule 5 Decisions

  • Cole Waites

  • Juan Sanchez

  • Aeverson Arteaga

  • Carson Ragsdale

Hey, look! It’s an actual first-time Rule 5 eligible dude! I knew we’d get to one in this series somewhere (though, to be honest, I’m not entirely sure if we’ll get to another one). Carson Seymour wasn’t a member of the Giants’ 2020 draft, but he is a 2020 draftee, and, following four years of solid development, he’s now eligible for the poaching draft for the very first time, and probably the top protection candidate of any of the Giants’ first-timers this year.

Last week, we installed Carson I on the 40-man roster. Can we do the same for Carson II today? Or is Seymour Carson I and Ragsdale Carson II? After all, it was Seymour who started the year at the top level. This is all very confusing. Well, we’ll dig into things in today’s post and try to get this entire Carsonage straightened out. And, along the way, we’ll see if we can lift the jumbo-sized human onto the 40-man as well.
