We’re going streaking!
The final couple innings of the weekend put a slight damper on my heading — San Jose wasn’t quite able to pull off the six-game streak in the end. Still, from a team perspective, winning streaks have been all the rage for the A-ball clubs lately — and that means we’re going to have some post-season races to follow over the next 10 days. Last Monday I could report on Eugene running up a seven-game winning streak during their long homestand, and this week it was San Jose who pushed a winning streak up to seven games, and nearly gained a series sweep. Both clubs timed their hot spurts exceedingly well, as Eugene and San Jose both go into the final couple series of the first half within a game of first place. The Giants want to cultivate winning ballplayers, and it seems like learning how to perform when the stakes are high (or as high as they’re going to get in A-ball) is one way to build those skills. Go teams!
And don’t sleep on that complex level group either — they have the second best record in the ACL. It would be nice to see some of this winning atmosphere translate to the upper levels of the farm, but I guess we’ll take it where we can get it!
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Dakota Jordan (SJ), 7 for 15, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R,
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Josh Bostick (Eug), 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K
I’m glad I have this one final shot to talk about last week’s series, because I kept meaning last week to show you one of the most interesting pre-pitch routines I’ve seen in many, many years. Let’s all root for Nationals’ outfield prospect, Phillip Glasser, to become a major leaguer, because I’m sure we all want to see him showing off this unusual batting style in big league stadiums for years to come. In a world of increasingly cookie cutter mechanics, it’s good to see an old fashioned whackadoodle guy every now and again!
