It’s getting down to it. That time of year when Wins are everything, and teams have to prove to themselves: are we in it, or not. Are we playing for something, or just working our way to the end of the calendar. It’s “give it everything you’ve got time of year,” and that sense of urgency was on display in a few of our games this weekend — especially in Richmond, where they really are clawing for a little redemption to their year. Did they get some this weekend? We’ll find out, as we head to the Minor Lines…
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Jonah Cox (Eug), 7 for 13, HR, 2 2b, 7 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Blade Tidwell (Sac), 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
Of course, not everything in baseball is drama and tension. There’s fun involved as well. Watching new Giant, Jesus Rodriguez, this weekend, scratched an itch in the back of my brain from earlier in the season and made me wonder: which of these two pre-pitch setups is weirder, Rodriguez, who turns the entire bottom of his foot towards the pitcher, or Harrisburg’s Phillip Glasser, who crosses and then uncrosses his feet getting into his load?

Rodriguez’s is strange, but I’ll probably still go with Glasser on this one — you actually need to see the entire routine to fully appreciate it:
They don’t make ‘em like that every day! Still, I really appreciate guys trying to get it done a different way. This game needs more variety! So, bring on Jesus and His Heel Turn! I’m ready for it.
