The last two bags have been pretty darned full, so it seems this season is still prodding your curiosity. And certainly the events of today won’t stop that any. So we might as well keep the Post Office open for the summer.
You ask; I’ll try to answer.
Do you think the Giants will start fast tracking Cavanaugh? What else does he need to prove in Eugene? I would love to see the Giants have a catcher who can actually hit!!
I'm probably not the only baseball fan with a little bit of Preller envy right now. It just seems like a great time to be a Padres fan, with a FO relentlessly going all in at every opportunity. What really befuddles me though is how he seems to trade away more top 100 prospects every year than we've had in the last decade (I know that's an exaggeration, but not by a comfortable enough margin).
How are the padres able to so consistently have elite prospects on hand to make these trades, despite seemingly selling the farm twice a year? Are there lessons that our FO can take away from how they operate? Obviously the book on Posey is still very much unwritten, but I've loved the bold decisiveness he's shown getting Devers & finally picking a lane this deadline after years of the team waffling.
Also, in light of your great, really interesting & humanizing interview with Tibbs (really rough to see his life upended yet again so soon after, and sucks that now I can't root for him anymore), do you think there is a longer term cost to the frenetic pace of Preller's wheeling & dealing? Seems like being a prospect in the SD system must be a little more uncomfortable than average.
