Since the reorganization of minor league baseball in 2021 turned the Cal League into a Low-A level, the Giants have been a mainstay in the playoffs — heading to the post-season in each of the past four years. That’s the good news! The slightly less good news is that they’re building something of a Minnesota Twins kind of legacy in their post-season runs. San Jose did, of course, win the league back in 2021, when Luis Matos won the only Cal League MVP award in the San Jose Giants’ franchise history.
Since then, however, it’s been nothing but Ls. Last night the team dropped its fifth consecutive playoff game, and its third consecutive one to these Modesto Nuts. Combined with two straight two-game sweeps for the Richmond club, and it feels like post-season wins have been a little short in coming these last few years.
That’s actually not really true, however. The Giants’ system has won four league titles in these four years (one for San Jose, two for Eugene, and one in the ACL), which helps bolster a pretty decent legacy for the farm. If I asked you right now, what organizations have won the most league titles this century, where among the 30 might you put the Giants?
Not too shabby! Of course, the 00’s are doing a lot of the heavy lifting for that figure, but it’s still good to have a sense of perspective as to how one stacks up against peers. Those four titles in the ‘20s, by the way? They’re the second most in baseball!
