Before we get into the baseball today, I want to help spread the word on a worthy event taking place later this fall. I don’t know how many of my readers live in Florida, play golf, or both…but if you do, or if you know someone who does, please consider taking part in the David Strong for Families Golf Invitational at Pembroke Lakes Golf Club this November.
The David Strong for Families foundation was started by Orlando Estevez, a longtime baseball scout who works for the Royals, and his wife, after they lost their son David to cancer. Its aim is to provide support to families with children undergoing life-threatening diseases. For the second year in a row, they are raising money by hosting a golf tournament and banquet dinner:
Date: Saturday, November 23 2024
Time: Shotgun Start at 1 pm/Banquet Dinner served after Tournament
Location: Pembroke Lakes Golf and Country Club (10500 Taft Street, Pembroke Pines, FL 33026)
Event Highlights: Golf, Hole in One hole, Awards, Banquet, Silent Auctions, Raffles
Your participation in the tournament will not only provide a day of enjoyment and camaraderie, but will also directly support their mission to raise awareness and offer some financial support to families of children undergoing treatment for life-threatening diseases. For more information, please visit their site at www.DavidStrongFamilies.com
Orlando is really a wonderful baseball man (who covers the Giants’ system!) and very giving of his time and passion — and I wanted to give a little back to him by helping him spread the word on this. Please send the info to anyone in your circles who may be interested in taking part or helping in other ways.

PITCHER of the NIGHT: Marlon Franco (DSLGB), 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
We’ll start today at the bottom, rather than the more traditional top, down in the Dominican, where a disturbing trend continued…
