First and foremost, the topic of There R Giants’ is always player development. It’s about how young men try to improve their strength, game skills, prep routines, and mental resiliency in the pursuit of an incredible (nigh-impossible) end goal. But, hey, as Buster Posey so aptly put it, we are working with the memory-making business here — and, while I’m sure we will all prefer to forget everything that happened at the major league level this weekend, memory making is a thing at the minor league level as well. This is a game made up of moments, some banal, some intense, some boring, and some that impress themselves on your mind forever. And we certainly had one of those this weekend! Yeah, there we go. Magic! I can’t tell you how often Trey brings up that Jacob Heyward walk-off Grand Slam in conversation. And I remember Ryder Jones’ pinch-hit Grand Slam like it was yesterday (was really believing in the Ryder breakout that year). These moments really stick!
And if majestic walk offs aren’t enough for you, we had a NO HITTER this weekend as well! Now that is making some quality memories!
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Hunter Bishop (Sac), 6 for 10, HR, 2 2b, 4 R, 7 RBI, BB
PITCHERS of the WEEKEND: Luis de la Torre/Jose Rengel (ACLG), 7.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K
Let’s go in search of some magic, shall we?
