Roster Breakdowns, Opening Night Recaps and TONS of video
Yesterday, the minor league season kicked it into over-gear, as the four full season Giants’ affiliates were joined by their four complex level little brothers. I’ll have a recap of the Opening Day games below (and get ready for those eight game daily recaps!), but first, let’s take a dive into the rosters and see who’s who!
I’ll get you set with all of the names you need to need on all four rosters, loaded with tons and tons of video shot earlier this spring!
These are the lowest levels of professional ball, where players are the furthest from their dreams — and they often produce the lowest levels of professional quality. They’re also very different from the rest of the minor leagues in nearly every way. The roster rules are much more flexible, they play in camp facilities mostly unattended by all but a stray fan here or there. They’re hot, hot HOT (and in the Dominican hot, hot, and RAINY!)! And they often make up the rules of the day as they go along (“hey, we’re out of pitchers, mind if we just stop at this point?” is pretty common in the complex levels).
As a result of all of this, statistical performances don’t necessarily “matter” in the same way as at other levels — though my standard rule of thumb still applies, it’s always better to succeed than to fail. While we’ll watch the box scores and performances, it’s always more important to listen to the scouting reports and keep your ear the ground for that all important chatter and buzz.
