I seriously considered putting the annual draft primer out to pasture after what was, for me, a spectacular success in last year’s edition. I didn’t quite nail the pick entirely, as I went with high school shortstop Colin Houck as my official prediction for the Giants’ top pick. However, I did have both Bryce Eldridge and Walker Martin in my “most likely picks” category, made mention of Joe Whitman, and, between me and you, I have it on pretty good authority that I also spotlighted a different player who would have been the Giants’ pick had he fallen that far. As a cherry on top, another of my “most likely” group was Aiden Miller, eventually selected by the Phillies, who, along with Eldridge, is one of the members of the high school class who has gotten his pro career off to the strongest start.
I don’t want to undersell my abilities here, but it’s highly unlikely I’ll reach 2023 levels of success here today. Really, should have retired this piece.
Nevertheless, here we go….
