It’s a morning of transition. With a loss in Erie, Richmond’s season is over, which makes this the final Minor Lines post of the 2023 season. But at the same time, this is a post in which I get to utter a phrase I’ve been looking forward to for some time:

“Tyler Fitzgerald, Major Leaguer!”

Those of you who are long-time readers of There R Giants know full-well my regard and affection for Fitzgerald, both as a ball player and a person. He’s athletic, talented, serious about his craft, dedicated, and a tireless worker — which is a pretty good talent base for a player. And he’s thoughtful, articulate, gracious, and friendly — which is a pretty good talent base for a person. Let’s travel back in time a year to a dugout chat I had with Tyler as he was processing a year that had started so rough, but ended on a high note, and you’ll get an inkling of all of those qualities — and probably find someone who you really look forward to rooting for.
