Good morning. There R Giants stirring!
Let’s start with a medical update. According to the Giants, Will Wilson underwent successful surgery yesterday on a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. Wilson sadly suffered the injury just seven games after his call up to Sacramento. After having the surgery in Los Angeles, Wilson traveled to Arizona, where he will spend his rehab. He is scheduled to return to play in 5-6 weeks. This is the second time that Wilson’s season has been interrupted by injury — disrupting what’s been a strong development year for the shortstop. I think we can assume we’ll be seeing Wilson in the Arizona Fall League this year to recoup some of those missed ABs.
Elsewhere, we have more players on the move:

The incredibly overloaded San Jose pitching staff is gradually thinning and spreading its starters out. With Landen Roupp, Keaton Winn, and Mason Black all now in Eugene, there’s growing room for the 10 piggy back starters that started the year in San Jose to all start stretching out to full workloads. As we’ll see at the bottom of today’s post, there’s even room for There R Giants fave Trevor McDonald to finally sneak into a starter’s role!
However, one guy is making room by heading in a less desired direction:

This isn’t terribly unexpected. While the Giants have given all of their piggy back starters a mid-season blow to keep them fresh for their first full year, only Will Bednar skipped multiple turns in the rotation. Before taking his break, Bednar had thrown just three innings or fewer in five of his previous seven starts. It had started to feel like something was keeping him at less than his best, physically. The official word is, it’s more back woes that are keeping Bednar out. Backs have been an issue this year, it seems!
And, as long as we’re reporting injury news, another tweet from “friend of the show” Joe Ritzo informs us that Adrian Sugastey’s injury that has kept him out for most of the month was a quad strain. Legs are important for catchers!

Alright, now let’s get to the fun stuff, the games! Did anybody replicate Wednesday night’s heroics from Carter Aldrete?
Only one way to find out — let’s get to the Minor Lines!
