It’s the Big Monday Morning edition of Minor Lines — covering a whole weekend in hopefully fewer than 5,000 words! Let’s attack this baby like Ismael Munguia running the bases. He’s probably racing around somewhere on his off day like a mad man right this second! See Mr. Excitement hustle and get inspired!
What a week the org just had! Richmond, Eugene, and San Jose combined to win 15 of their 18 games this week, and have combined home records of 19-5 now on the season. Hard to end a homestand with better vibes than that! Though Sacramento continues to be on their own little island in terms of performance, success is starting to bubble up. And we even had our first sighting of a major player reporting from extended spring training this week — and what a sight it was!
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Victor Bericoto (Eug), 5 for 10, 2 HR (2), 2b, 3b, 6R, 4 BB
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Kai-Wei Teng (Rich), 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K
We had teammates waging battle for the coveted “Hitter of the Weekend” honorific, with Victor Bericoto and Wade Meckler each on a rampage! But with Meckler taking a seat Sunday night, the door cracked open for Bericoto, who continued his tear by reaching base three more times, including his first triple of the season, and scoring twice. Coulda been a tie! Lots of strong pitching performances this weekend, focused mainly in Richmond and Eugene, but we’ll give the nod to Kai-Wei Teng, who has been a portrait of perfection for most of the early weeks, and could be pushing hard for a promotion.
So grab a cup of coffee and slide into your chair like Cal Stevenson going after a pop up! It’s time to get this thing started (don’t go after it like Clint Coulter, though! You’ll never get to the end).
