Ok, now is everybody where they’re supposed to be? It took a day or so, but the official announcements all tumbled into place as the day went along. As I oh so subtly hinted yesterday morning, Wade Meckler is speed-racing through the levels. After becoming the only 2022 draftee to start the year in High A, Meckler wasted no time shaking the fertile red dust of Oregon off his feet and heading east. Makes sense, I guess. He is a speed guy after all!
And, since the Richmond clubbie assigned #1 to Wade Meckler, it was clear they couldn’t keep former #1 Luis Matos around anymore, so he had to find a new home as well:
With Vaun Brown already activated in Richmond (though not yet seeing any game action), that’s just about everybody in their assigned seats for the week. Except, we do have one more transaction to report ….. and it’s not a fun one. Fresh off of his Player of the Week award, Tyler Fitzgerald hit the IL. Guess getting up to 21 mph peak sprint speed is not for the feint of heart. Come back soon, Fitz!
HITTER of the NIGHT: Carter Williams (Rich), 2 for 2, HR (3), 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Manuel Mercedes (SJ), 5.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Of course, Meckler didn’t just arrive in Richmond. He did what he always seems to do — he got to hitting! I got to talk with Wade after the game about his big debut, and you’ll hear what he had to say inside…
