Here come the Stats! We’re heading to Memorial Day, which means we’re right about the quarter mark of the minor league season. Stats are meaningful now…maybe! But we’re also living in a season where a league average batting line in the NWL is .224/.314/.363 and the league average batting line in the EL is .233/.323/.392. Yikes! But that makes all the black ink on Casey Schmitt’s card even more impressive, right?
In the PCL, the average numbers are higher of course, but that doesn’t mean you should overlook ALL that black ink on David Villar’s card either!
Let’s check out the numbers…

OF Ismael Munguia’s roster status changed from 60-day IL to “Injured — Full Season”
Munguia wasn’t ever on the River Cats this year, but for administrative regulations, requirements that are entirely inscrutable, he has been assigned to the Sacramento IL for this year. Regardless, this is a bad blow for a great kid.

TRANSACTIONS
RHP Mat Olsen re-assigned to Eugene
RHP Spencer Bivens assigned to San Jose
LHP Rohan Handa assigned to San Jose, placed on 7-day IL
LHP Scott Alexander assigned to San Jose, placed on 7-day IL
I’m not exactly sure what the significance of the paper transactions for Handa and Alexander are. They’re still not active on the team roster, so it’s unclear why they needed to be assigned to it — but as with the note on Munguia above, there are administrative regulations that govern these types of moves and the motives behind them.

Time to get ready for the week! I’ll have a post coming your way later today about David Villar getting on the Giants’ radar, as well as a new podcast — this week featuring a very unique topic! So look for both of those in your Inbox later today.
I'm sad about Munguia. The anticipated joy of following him is gone. He was such a bright spot last year. Also, Luke Williams DFA'd. Dang. I guess a victim of numbers. I liked him, too.
