And now, we begin the steady expansion of the Minor Lines cinematic universe! A fifth team has entered the fray. That entrance may be slightly anti-climactic or underwhelming for some of you, as we’re still waiting for the professional debut of 2nd round pick Walker Martin, and still waiting for Rayner Arias to pick up where he left off, just 16 thrilling games into his debut season. Sadly, those names won’t appear actively in today’s wrap up. They remain in abstentia.
But many players were actively working this weekend, so let’s get to those guys!
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Turner Hill (Eug), 5 for 9, 2 HR (3), 2b, 3 R, 7 RBI, 2 BB
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Carson Whisenhunt (Sac), 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 10 K
The players in action this weekend actually did include a few others making their season debuts, besides the complex level kids. In fact, the transaction wire was humming this weekend. We’ll get to all of it in due time, but maybe we need to start with the whirlwind of catcher movement that occupied much of the organization this weekend. Ready?
Patrick Bailey to the IL, Blake Sabol Sacramento → SF
That left Sacramento with only one active catcher, former Nat, Jakson Reetz, so
Brandon Martorano activated from XST (IL) → Sacramento
One day later, we had:
Tom Murphy to the IL, Reetz Sacramento → SF
That once again left Sacramento with only one active catcher, now just Martorano, so
Drew Cavanaugh, San Jose → Sacramento.
I’m guessing there’s some chatter going on right now with other clubs to see if there’s some available upper minors catching depth anywhere around baseball. It’s enough to make your head spin, right BMart?
