Yup. That’s about the size of it. As my brother and I were saying in the middle of Wednesday afternoon’s nonsense: we get a report that DeGrom is signing with a team, and that’s that. Turner? Same. Verlander? Same! Why don’t the normal rules apply for our beloved Giants? Why is it always torture?
Ah well, it’s a hard thing to convince a Legacy Yankee to walk away from a club that a) has the greatest financial resources in the industry; b) plays in front of the foremost True Baseball Town in the country; and c) hasn’t had a losing season in 30 years. That was always going to be a Tough Ask.
In the meantime, there’s the news you hope for, and there’s the news you get:
Haniger’s good! He’s fine, actually! When healthy, he hits dingers in boatloads — maybe he’ll literally hit a dinger into a boat for the Giants! He’s a local kid, and we’ll all come to love him soon, probably. For this week, he gets the “He isn’t you” award sadly. Sorry about that Mitch! Just bad timing!
