Let me start out today by giving a shoutout to my friend Doug Bruzzone and his Substack site, “It Would Be Nice If the Giants Weren’t Bad.” Doug’s a wonderful writer who takes a very different approach to covering the Giants’ fortunes than I do. And while I try my best to stick with my staid, even-handed, “let’s consider all sides” tone — because it fits my temperament best — that doesn’t mean I don’t get as frustrated as anyone else and enjoy a good excoriation now and again. Doug’s piece on Farhan Zaidi yesterday was typical of his best scorched Earth style, and gave me more than a few chuckles. And, since I can tell from this week’s mailbag that we all need a little release, I recommend it whole-heartedly to all of you!
There weren’t exactly a ton of strong performances to choose from last night (as we’ll see in a moment), so I’m going to break with convention today and highlight an opponent as my Hitter of the Night, because, when you’re in the presence of historic greatness, you have to at least acknowledge it!
HITTER of the NIGHT: Hunter Dozier (Salt Lake), 4 for 5, 2 HR (4), 2 R, 9 RBI
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Daniel Blair (Eug), 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K
Have a night, Mr. Dozier!
