Will Giants Make it Two in a Row with Rule 5 Draft Success?

I know that every other Giants-related preview of Winter Meetings week is focused on the possibilities of signing Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto while trading for Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes, which makes my little Rule 5 Draft preview seem sort of sad and pathetic by comparison. But hey, you gotta tend your own garden, as Candide would have it, and shovel the snow from your own stretch of sidewalk. This little street corner is where I ply my humble trade, so I must keep it spot free and lovely. If the Giants delve into any transactions this week that impinge upon the prospect world, you can be sure that I’ll include my thoughts on the matter later this week.

But today, with the meetings already well under way, is my final chance to preview some potential targets the Giants might have in mind for Wednesday’s Rule 5 draft, so I had best take advantage of it.

Last year, the Giants scored possibly the biggest Rule 5 success in franchise history (depending on your particular views of the Giants’ career of Max Venable), and every great success story engenders a sequel doesn’t it? It’s the inevitable logic of Hollywood! Success deserves its own follow up.

So, will the Giants be making a selection in this week’s draft in hopes of catching a second lightning strike in a second bottle?

Probably not.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
