I’m betting on Vaun Brown succeeding at higher levels, after watching him in person a few times, he looks to have the mental makeup to match his physical ability. He plays as hard if not harder than anyone on the field and must have good baseball instincts to have the SB success rate he has. Also curious to know if anyone tried to tinker with Matos after last year. My opinion is some hitters need to be who they are and left alone, he may be one of them, much like Pablo

I think internally they'll admit that Matos is stuck between two different versions of himself. They wanted to help him develop better swing decisions and possibly better launch angle and instead they've gotten a lot of tentative, stiff swings producing pop ups and easy fly balls.

As for Brown, I hope so. It's really just a matter of the contact ability at higher levels against good breaking balls.

If you want to make yourself sad/angry/frustrated, just go through Keith Law's new Top 50 list and look for all the guys drafted AFTER Hunter Bishop in 2019.

Two comments. I'm saddened at Austin Reich's retirement. He was damn good! I guess he might have found his real calling during his enforced break. I wish him well.

2nd comment. You seem to reference the possibility that the Giants themselves have had a negative hand in Luis Matos slide. Perhaps wanting his batting style to more conform to what they vision to be the ideal major league hitter, I can see that. However this might be a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Some poor batting instructor tasked with working on 'perfecting' his swing. Even if he sees a really great hitter as is, if he doesn't try to change it, he loses his job. If he doesn't succeed, he loses his job.

Ouch.

The minor leaguers are about developing and getting better. I don't think anybody would have looked at Matos in San Jose and thought he was a completed form ready to compete at the big league level. He does need to get better and improve and the Giants certainly have been trying to help him do that.

Schmitts played a lot of SS in Lucianos absence. Is he likely headed back to 3rd base when Luciano returns?

Yeah, he is. Luciano at SS is a priority and Schmitt is too good a playmaker at 3b

Schmitt at Third sounds like a great show in itself. If I get to Eugene I am looking for a seat as close to Third base as possible.
