I think it's hard to say right now -- which is why I'm frankly struggling figuring out where to put SS in this list. They're obviously going to work hard to keep him at SS to start with (and we've seen more and more guys who weren't thought to be SS on way up stick there the last few years: Seager, Correa, DeJong etc) But if the glove slows him up, I think there are a bunch of options with RF and LF possibly being as or more likely than 3b? For right now, I'm going to continue considering him to be a SS I think (which is why 3b was as low as it was)
I completely agree - SS standards seem to have changed, and in this environment if the glove doesn’t work at short it’s probably not good enough for third. I think that the rise of other prospects could also influence this - if Toribio (or whomever) seems capable at third, then it’s easier to leave Marco at short. Or if Luciano’s defense is iffy and out OF prospects aren’t panning out, maybe it’s easier then to move him to the OF.
I stand by my guess that Luciano is on the Sheffield Path for now.🤓
I also did find Hank's choice of future CYA winner to be a little questionable. Right now, I just don't see it in Hjelle because he doesn't yet have that putaway pitch that Cy Young candidates have. But it's still wait-and-see, with his curveball most likely being that putaway pitch. I would've picked Seth Corry instead to be most likely to win CYA.
The funny thing is, we've seen what Cy Young performance looks like in the form of peak Lincecum. That's generational talent. For as great as MadBum & Cain were, Bum hasn't finished higher than 4th in a Cy vote; Cain's highest finish was 6th. Of course, guys like Kershaw can keep all of those awards, while we'll gladly keep the WS trophies. Still, I don't think any current Giants pitching prospect is worthy of Cy Young forecasting at this point.
For that matter, Marichal who was a generational talent was never even close! (though of course there was only one award for the two leagues for much of his peak
Nice seeing you getting into the RHP now, but I was able to watch Hjelle a lot when he got to Richmond, and I’m sorry but I see he has a long way to go before being at a top level pitcher. His velocity could touch 95 at the top but it was very seldom he was mainly around 92 and struggled through Double A when he got there. But I seen other starters at Richmond that stood out more than him, but I know they have a lot of money invested in him so you have to talk about him, but Lawson, Halstead, and Navas when he started stood out more to me
Yeah he got hit pretty well with Richmond (he got hit around the day I saw him too). But I do want to give him a little bit of a mulligan that it was the end of a long first full season. I remember Matt Cain getting pummeled in a similar end of season promotion scenario. So I'm not holding to that performance as his ultimate potential. I will agree with you that the bullpen on that Richmond team last year had a lot of impressive arms who could be big leaguers
Likewise, Roger. I’m looking forward to it. Would you agree that, all else being equal, a RHP is the preferred choice in this year’s 1st round of the draft? And if so, is there anyone you find intriguing at this point in the (interrupted) process?
I'm pretty fully in Pitcher mode, very heavily in the college pitcher mode, but not 100% on the RHP mode -- though that certainly is the biggest available crop. As it happens I'm going to be taking part in a fictional Mock draft next Friday night for Prospects Live: https://twitter.com/ProspectsLive/status/1253442344302542850
They still need a 3b power guy to solidify the infield
Could end up being Luciano. Hard to say. Their prospect power right now is mostly concentrated in OF. INF is fairly weak right now
I’m assuming (well, more like hoping) that Marco ends up at 3B - at least at the beginning of his ML career.

Right! And the Sheffield path means: consider him a SS (since that's what he'll come up as)

Don't want to spoil the surprise, but there will be pitchers!
If your going with the best prospect RHP I still feel Emerson Hancock has the best stuff and Asa Lacey rom the other side
Both will be long gone by the time the 13th pick comes along
I look forward to hearing all about it!
I’m an official subscriber! So this is where the cool kids hang out.
Well -- one conceivable definition of "cool kids" absolutely! Nothing could make me happier than chatting here with you Lyle!
Hope you liked the 3b post! I thought of you when I wrote it!
Where have you gone, Matt Williams - a lonely nation turns its eyes to you.😀
Oh. Tough one. Lots of crossover with these players.
No. It's super easy, Bryce!
Cain is the giveaway. Well, Callaway too, but Cain was a guy with some hope.
There's a combination here of people who never got beyond a certain level that should make it fairly easy
