After all the words spilled over the Rule 5 draft, the one heard most commonly during the actual event was: “Pass.” In the end, just 10 players were selected in this year’s edition of the draft, with the Giants being neither a willing nor unwilling participant in the activities.
In Monday’s edition of There R Giants, I opined that the biggest danger to the Giants in the Rule 5 Draft lay in the friends they’ve made along the way (as a popular internet meme would have it). As I said then:

Yes, I thought, and Webb’s weren’t the only pitch design sessions you were present for in recent Giants’ history. As the Rule 5 draft approached, it seemed more and more likely to me that the 4th pick in the draft — the one belonging to the White Sox — could well be the action pick for the Giants. Indeed, I took to the airwaves to announce the fact:
