For the last few weeks we’ve been examining the major cases of Rule 5 protection candidates trying to guess who the Giants might choose to add to the 40-man roster this year. The Rule 5 protection deadline this year is November 19. So far in the Rule 5 Decisions series, we’ve looked at:

  • Setting Up the Rule 5 Decisions

  • Cole Waites

  • Juan Sanchez

  • Aeverson Arteaga

  • Carson Ragsdale

  • Carson Seymour

  • Christian Koss

  • Victor Bericoto

  • …And the Rest

The great thing about this test is you actually get the answers delivered at the end of the period — unlike so much about this great game of baseball, at the end of the day, you know what is what.

At precisely seventeen minutes post-deadline yesterday evening, word of the Giants’ final Rule 5 protection decisions came: Carson Ragsdale and Carson Seymour in; Kai-Wei Teng out.

As I said at the start of this series, there were fewer choices this year and far fewer hard choices. It was always going to come down to one or two guys at the most, and the Carsons ended up being the two guys.
