Salem--Keizer has a nice stadium that was used until maybe 2 seasons ago with short-season ball. I'd love it if the High A team moved there! An hour away from Portland, I would drive there to see the team a heck of a lot more than I will Eugene.
Used by the Giants in fact for 20 years and left behind with great bitterness foe the family who owned it. That stadium however was one of the very first to gain MLBs enmity and an original member of the cut list due to lacking facility standards. Pretty doubtful that would be looked on as an option
I’m gonna be following Matheny & Aldrete. They went from outside your top 50 to 28 & 29 respectively (I think), and have a chance to really move if they can keep it up, especially Aldrete with his power.
I’m glad to hear that you’re going to Eugene - hopefully you can get some info on the situation there. The sharing of the facilities sounds sub-optimal; I wonder if there’s any local sentiment to build a stadium just for the Emeralds?
They are working on it through the public planning process. It's going to be a very tight deadline though and those kind of processes are always complicated
My other sporting obsession other than the Giants is Oregon Duck football. It was reported last week that the University and the city are in talks to trade land around the football/baseball facilities so the football program can build a new indoor practice facility and two outdoor practice fields. The city would then try to build a new ballpark on the former University property. The town council was mixed, but with Oregon now in the great wilderness of college athletics due to impending doom of the Pac12, the feeling is that the town will go along with the university (and Phil Knight) and approve the deal so Oregon can further build up its facilities (which are already off the charts nuts) to continue to stay relevant in the college football world to eventually gain enterance into whatever SuperConference college football evolves to. If the ballpark gets built is anyone's guess but the city is focused on the University right now.
That makes a lot of sense. Everybody in Pac-12 is in scramble mode right now and the Emeralds are going to get pushed to the side while Eugene tries not to land in Corvallis-level purgatory.
In theory, could the Giants buy a team in the Midwest League, and then transfer their affiliation there? After current affiliation agreement is up, of course.
Timing doesn't really work out for that. The affiliation agreements signed when MLB re-organized the system are all (or nearly all) 10 year agreements. MLB has given Eugene (and thus the Giants) until 2025 to find a suitable stadium situation of they're out (supposedly -- I have no idea what MLB would actually do if the options are continue current situation or force the Giants to operate with three affiliates and have a weird-ass league with only five teams)
Ten year agreeents? I missed that. Are all 30 agreements up at the same time, or are they staggered? And, bottom line, if the Giants decided to buy (for example) the Lansing Lugnuts, could they - as the minor league team owners - decide that when the 10 year agreement is up they would prefer to no longer be affiliated with the A’s and instead choose San Francisco?
Your observation regarding Luis Matos "The overall picture seems to be of a player who tried to make adjustments (whether mechanically or philosophically) and instead got himself messed up." I don't know if that's better or worse than a physical injury. How does one stop thinking too much (if that is what it is)? BTW I'll be there at the lunch and one game in Eugene. Really looking forward to seeing some of your followers (and you!)
Thanks! I was going to ask about the value of having non-40 man depth pieces at AAA instead of guys like Rincones or Tostado getting the opportunity to play against former big leaguers or guys on the cusp, (esp. w/all the waiver claims/cash trades) but you covered it. Looking forward to the second half!

I apparently cursed Matheny by doing that. Hopefully won't have the same impact on Aldrete.

Oh - thanks, Roger!

That could lead to some real issues for this franchise and the Giants in general. It's not like there are any obvious landing spots for them

I guess they could allow them to keep the franchise but not allow them to have a home stadium.

They just keep working. You grow from failure in this game (and every game I suppose)
