We’re into the There R Giants Top 50. Over the next few months, I’ll write a post on each of the fifty players in my rankings, leading us back to spring. So far, we’ve covered:
#43: Anthony Rodriguez
This system is deep. It’s deep! I keep coming up against that one essential fact as I make my way through this Top 50 project. And every time I feel myself astonished anew by it, I feel the need to make sure you’re aware of this fact as well by repeating myself ad nauseum! Guys whom I rather casually assumed, at the start of this process, I would find a way to get into the top 30 aren’t even coming close to that milestone. Maybe I didn’t fully expect Jimmy Glowenke’s ranking would start with a “3..” but I certainly thought he’d be in the conversation. Instead….42! Forty-frickin’ two! That’s hella-far from the thirties! It’s a good problem to have, though Kyle Haines likely has smoke coming out of his ears about now as he plots a way to find playing time for all of the talent on hand.
Anyhoo, today’s entry in the “Guys I tried to push higher but failed” pageant goes to a player I’ve previously comped to a Wilmer Flores-type …. and I really haven’t come off that position too much following his first year in pro ball. Glowenke’s discreet charms were over-shadowed somewhat by the mega-wattage coming from his star-studded teammates in San Jose. That’s likely always going to be true for him — like Wilmer, Glowenke’s not likely to be the first name you look for in a lineup card filled with Luciano, Matos, Pomares, Bailey and Bishop. But there are, indeed, charms to be found in the profile of this 2nd round supplemental pick and a legitimate path forward to a productive baseball career. So, let’s tune out the glare from his shinier teammates for a bit and focus in on Jimmy’s own ability to glow brightly.
