Great pod Rog, Merry Xmas and thanks for a great year!
Surely the Correa signing means there's a surplus of RH INF, right? Villar/Flores/Davis for prospects? Does Luciano now have more value as a trade chip for the Giants than as a prospect?? Is Wilson in the same boat??? Just as long as they keep Schmitt out of any trades ;-)
Does seem like they’re overloaded on the right side. Won’t trade those guys for prospects but for the improvements still needed for major league roster? Maybe! Still feels like getting one of Alek Thomas or Jake McCarthy is best play if it’s possible. Susan thinks there’s change coming at C and I can see that too. Maybe add Bart to that list of surplus RH
I thought Susan's (and a few other's) comments about that were interesting. I would have thought that giving Bart the first opportunity to own the role was a relatively safe assumption, but that doesn't seem to be the prevailing view. Bart plus Wynns/Casali/Sabol seems fine to start the season to me ...
He really has not made much progress over the last three years to my eye. You just can’t keep running a guy out there to strikeout 40-50% of the time. Especially when as Susan noted he’s not even taking over the role defensively and pitchers are turning to other favorite options
I have long been on Sugasety and Arteaga so it was great to hear them prominently get discussed.
I’m guessing maybe we should add Bishop in the trade package for Bryan Reynolds. Pittsburgh’s top prospect is a catcher so I’m assuming Bailey could not be included in that package either. I’m thinking Luciano, Bishop or Ramos, Mason Black & a choice of Rodriguez, Santos or Waites
It was good to hear about Maldonado, I don’t recall ever hearing his name although maybe one of the interviews with the Latin farm Director has mentioned it
Other than that, thanks for your efforts, have a great Christmas to you and yours and that is the great Chrissie Hynde singing that song isn’t it?
I write about Maldonado all the time! Including a long description of him when I caught him in person last July (and the most recent San Jose roster preview, not to mention an upcoming RHP Depth Chart!).
Pretty hard to add guys with declining value to a package and make it enticing. That's the classic internet trade proposal of "please take all my junk that I don't want anymore for your super fantastic player! On the bright side, I can tell you that Pittsburgh's top prospect may have a C next to his name in the box scores right now, but I don't any scouts who believe that's likely to last to the majors. So they probably will be looking for a catcher soon. (Probably not Bailey though)
And yes, that was the Pretenders doing 2000 Miles, one of my favorites
