Baseball Prospectus’ prospect writer Eli Walsh drops by the pod to discuss this year’s BPro Giants rankings, and take a look back at the progress of last year’s group as well.
Not saying it was me but someone in this house squealed when Eli dropped the Keaton Winn/Kevin Gausman comp. I know folks are (rightfully!) upset about the number of innings SFG is hoping to cover in the first half on the backs of youngsters. Still, the upside for me will be watching these kids take the mound and get after it every 5th day or so and Keaton Winn is very much towards the top of my "excited to watch hurl" list. (his pitch-up music is the Georgia Satellites which is also all kinds of awesome, IMO)
I get that comp based on the plus splitter + high 90s fb similarity, but I do think there's a significant difference in those fb beyond the velo. Winn's just doesn't have the shape of Gausman's and consequently, despite excellent velo it doesn't tend to play nearly as well. Where Gausman has one of the best performing fb in baseball, Winn's plays below average and that's been fairly consistent since returning from TJ. So he has to be finer in how he uses it
Great podcast. Enjoyed that. I wondered what of happening with Brett Auerbach??
Brett's in the organization still. Hopefully will be able to make the Richmond squad again this spring after a really rough season last year.
Thank you

Thanks for the interview.
Belt's 29 HR in 2021 are the highest total by a SF developed palayer since Matt Williams. If he had just stayed healthy that year......
