What an incredible season. I saw a poll on a fan page prior to the playoffs asking if the season would be a disappointment if SF didn't advance pass the NLCS. About 80% said no it wouldn't. I'm with that group. Too many incredible moments and the season as a whole was so unexpected. I'm disappointed the way it ended but 2021 will go down as an all time favorite for me.
Really enjoyable conversation - thanks! I may have to give in and get a subscription to The Athletic🙄
I may have misunderstood the popular discontent about this year’s playoff situation, but my complaint was not that the Dodgers had to win a play-in game despite winning 106 games; it was that, once they won that game, they should not have turned around and immediately faced the Giants. The four teams, at that point, should be re-seeded. The LA/SF face off looked to be the best one, so it should have been saved for the NLCS (even if one or both didn’t advance that far).
It's a better plan than re-seeding before the WC game I suppose but honestly I think this falls under Grant's comment of: you don't make regulations based on extreme outlier situations.
