Richmond Flying Squirrels Manager Dennis Pelfrey (coming off of last season’s championship in Eugene) joins me to talk about spring training camp, the advantages of coming from an Indy ball background, the resources available for player development today — and, of course, we talk about some of the players as well!
Nice discussion, especially what he had to say about the prospects you brought up. A little off topic, if the MLB lockout doesn't get resolved soon there will be huge upheaval in who gets placed just where. 14 players from the 40-man who would make up over half the AAA roster would those spots be filled with AA guys? Or what?
It could impact some of them. But they have signed a lot of minor league FA this winter as well, so those guys will pick up a lot of the slack. The opposite might be an even bigger concern, if minor league season starts while big league ST is still going on, who picks up all of the at bats and innings that normally go to prospects so that the big leaguers can ease themselves in?
