Love the explanation of grooved vs. handsy swings! This may explain my personal experience for only being able to square up certain pitches in slow-pitch softball, even! I might just have an extremely grooved swing :(
i remember when you explained that somebody i was irrationally excited about -- i think it was tyler horan, who was off to a hot start -- had a grooved swing. that was a very helpful way of bringing into focus something that i kinda sorta saw but didn't want to see. since then, every player i've heard described as having a grooved swing has stalled out. grooved swing = won't make it past the eastern league, as far as i can tell.
Given his physical description, I’m surprised he hasn’t been tried at catcher or third base.
