that is a very exciting team. prospects at every position!

though i bet it'll be bailey at san jose and genovés at eugene. genovés deserves it.

I can't believe that. It's pretty unheard of for 1st round college picks to start in Low A. Not to say it never happens, but it's always an eyebrow-raiser when it does and suggests orgs are sending "shot across the bow" messages to their player. In the last 30 years the only Giants 1st round pick out of 4 Yr College who has gone to A ball rather than A+ was Brad Hennessey, and that was result of his having missed a year after signing to have tumors removed from back.

raw deal for genovés!

one of the many reasons i scratched my head at the bailey pick was that the projection described for bailey sounded so similar to the one i'd heard for genovés. .240-.250 hitter, some power, strong and accurate arm, leadership ability, most likely a quality backup. i was like... don't we already have this player in the system? they're right around the same age, too. i suppose bailey has a much higher floor than genovés does. plus he switch-hits.

i noticed yesterday that mlb pipeline gives them both a 45 for hitting ability. bailey gets a 50 for power, genovés gets a 45.

Bailey was a consensus top 15 talent in the draft after having hit >.300 for his career in a power D1 conference. Genoves is a career .250 hitter after four years in rookie leagues and short-season ball. I think viewing them as the same profile is mistaking one evaluation or the other. Bailey is viewed as having a very good chance to be an everyday player. Genoves is viewed as having a fair chance to become a backup. That's different! Fangraphs separates them by a little more than half grade Future Value with Genoves a 40 and Bailey (at draft time) a 45+
