The thought of the Giants not being "good" again until 2023 really brings me down, though watching this club at the moment is a reminder that your projection most certainly isn't far-fetched. There are just too many holes to fill. The note I wanted to make was re: Webb. While reading your summary of his first start I checked my DIGS totals to see if they matched up. While he earned an average score for his results, his underlying score was nearly 25 points less... meaning, as you pointed out, he was flirting with danger in a big way. Interestingly enough, two others whose first start produced underlying numbers WAY south of their results were Drew Smyly and... Madison Bumgarner. Oh boy!

In thinking more about this list, I think you’ve got it pretty correct. And I completely agree on the 2023 timeline, although I fully expect to enjoy the progress being made in 2022.

“So in one view, Davis is the perfect case-study on how well the Giants’ are Dodgering up that aspirational scale to their New Model™. ‘Chalk’ says Davis develops into something around the level of a 1st division up/down player or 2nd division bench guy. The Giants believe his future is bigger than that. If the Giants get the version of Davis they believe in, it will be a sign of very very good things to come for this organization — both in the specific case of Jaylin’s production and in the larger matter of their ability to spin used straw into gold.”

—Goes the other way too: if he’s still just potential by ‘23, yet still getting Oracle opportunities, it’ll signify how far the organizations are still apart.

—Btw, think Brisbee was trolling by linking your list right after Davis/Jimenez were sent off! (Kidding! More likely the pressure of the BART train bearing down before you posted! Kidding again!)
