You had him at #13 so not sure if he really qualifies as a riser in the sense of some of these others but Casey Schmitt. Loving what he's doing so far this year.
I can't remember exactly what was written about Vaun Brown when he was drafted but it made him very intriguing. Picked at a place in the draft with fairly high bust potential, but maybe very high boom potential. I'd say he's my favorite to keep an eye on right now.
Honestly he was picked at a point in the draft which is typically intended to save money on bonus pool. Those 9th -10th round college picks are almost always low dollar deals used to claw back a little over slot value elsewhere. But as with Ryan Murphy, that doesn’t mean that isn’t solid scouting behind them too
I'm not quite following the money angle. If bonus money weren't a consideration, only playing ability (and obviously projectability) about which round do you think Brown might have been drafted?
I can't really answer that question -- I'm not sure anybody other than Michael Holmes can. He was signed to a tiny $7,500 contract which was very clearly a prime reason for his being taken in the 10th round. The Giants wanted that extra money. Without that, maybe somewhere near the 20th? Possibly not at all? Very difficult to say with any authority
OK, got it. That helps. Then I'm guessing they send a flyer to all eligibles prior to the draft asking what is the amount they are willing to sign for. I can't see them wasting picks on guys they can't sign and it seems unlikely they have time to contact and ask each player during that pick. Does that sound about right?
My dude! I honestly don’t know how you deliver such rich content day-in-day-out! I eat it up here in Kenya as I would a medium rare ribeye if I could get my hands on it (tired of goat)! I love your turn of phrase and how you grind. Black, McCray and Santos are my fav’s moving forward. Who do you think (in the whole system) will be Farhan “trade bait” as we creep toward that portion of the season?
PS I am interviewing Jane Goodall tomorrow on Daraja Means Bridge, the podcast I set up to share Daraja Academy’s student voices with the world. It would be cool if you checked it out en route to the park. Asante sana.
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but given the organization’s pitching situation I guess I’d select Mason Black. If he and Bednar end up in the ML rotation, that would be quite a nice draft.
I love your one-liner critiques of your past comments. #HumilityMatters
I do not read all that much but, I never see this. It seems a "Look Back" article would really be great for every writer who is a prediction type. And Baseball, including me, involves lots of Predicting.

Will rotations still exist by the time those guys are ready for majors or will every pitcher have become a 2 inn reliever by then? Stay tuned!
good point. and then we'll have to consider the odds one of those 2 innings pitchers is gonna have a bad day...
