I think I disagree with you that the Giants wouldn’t be content with a 110 wRC+ out of their 2nd baseman. There’s currently only 7 players in MLB with 200+ PAs as a 2B this year and a 110 wRC+ or higher. As long as his defense isn’t atrocious I think that would be a terrific outcome.
That's a fair point. I guess underlying my thinking is the suspicion that the 100-110 wRC+ range isn't as reliably sticky as the 115-120 area, and as soon as you some regression clubs would be looking for an upgrade there. But you're right the position is pretty bad and probably doesn't offer much in the way of upgrades, and the Giants have enough other areas of need that it wouldn't be likely to triage its way to the top. I guess i was thinking about the way the Tigers went out and paid for Torres, despite having an in-house Keith whom they'd already signed to a multi-year deal (Keith was not as good as a 110 wRC+ player as a rookie but I do believe the Tigers thought he would get there and they chose to upgrade regardless)
I believe, in that case, their plan was to move Keith to 1st because of his poor defense. Torkelson was going to be out of a job if not for Gleyber’s injury.
On the superficial scouting the stat line level I'd add Yulian Barreto to the below the radar prospect picks to click list. His ability to collect hits is reminiscent of young Luis Matos' stint in the DSL. Possible Diego Velasquez upside?
Yeah, could be. They're similar sorts of athletes I'd say. Keep in mind that 1) Velasquez was deemed too advanced for DSL at same age, and 2) Barreto is RHH only. But the Giants certainly like him and think he can advance as all-around 2b type. I will say that "2b only" profiles at DSL level don't tend to age all that way in the same way that "LF only" profiles in DSL don't age all that great typically

I suppose. I've alwasy been dubious about that plan because his likely ceiling is below average power
