BTW, you actually took a vacation in the Caribbean? Nice!

I waffled a bit (actually a lot!) on this one too and I came down on the other side. The times I saw Matos in person, I have no lasting memory of a really good at bat from him. Small sample size, bad timing, whatever. A near full-season faceplant, never mind being a top 3 prospect, I don't even have him in my top 10. Clearly that's an error on my part, but still. He gets a 'no' from me.

I don’t have much conviction on that yes, I’ll say that much

Dodgers just grabbed Luke Williams … he will be an All-Star very soon.

Intriguing post thank you Roger. For me it’s a similar position to Hunter Bishop - potential to be so much but as yet too unproven in the minors to use up a 40-man spot. Furthermore, as you say, his AFL stint hasn’t offered much when i would have hoped it would have been the rubber-stamping of his addition to the roster.

It is a huge potential pool but are you going to approach the question of who the Giants might steal in the Rule 5? In checking AA leaders and if Dalhberg or Frisbee ranked high in the league, I noticed a boat load of high performing pitchers who are Rule 5 Eligible in that league.

Such a secondary question is actually easier after the November 15 deadline since then teams have made it clear who is Unprotected? But I understand it is not an SFG Prospects type of question but more for Fake GM's like you readers.

I'll probably do something closer to the draft date

Exactly what I was hoping for... maybe that Catcher need?

Catchers aren't a very typical Rule 5 pick. THey're usually ready or they aren't and if they are then they're on the big league roster and if they're not you can't hide them anywhere.

Very good points on the "Risk" side of the equation. Other Orgs are very aware of him and that might be enough.

Thanks also for info on Genoves. I did not see him on the Giants Roster Resource and I guess Fangraphs already thinks he will go somewhere else as a Minors Free Agent. Catcher is a position SFG seems to have good depth in.

As I say, I was really tepid on including him, especially given how his AFL campaign has gone when he could have been making a big impression. I think the risk is pretty low. And it's possible that the FO won't prioritize him anyway because his approach at plate is so far from what they want to see (which also feels like it will make him a trade candidate at some point down the road).

I suppose Roster Resource has already removed players slated to be FA, which Genovés will be as of Thursday if he's not added to roster before then. I'd actually disagree about Giants' catcher depth. I personally think they're woefully short at that position from the top down, especially in upper levels.

I know Bailey is a disappointment but still such a high pick. And you speak highly of Sugastey and keep me excited about him. And I think Emory is 26 but he had a 126 wRC+ in Richmond that surprised me. And didn't SFG spend some top International $ on a Catcher?

As you say, none are high level players yet.

There are some kids in the lower minors, but I usually think of "depth" as being an upper levels issue. I'm not really sold on the state of their major league situation, and I don't think they have anybody currently in org suitable for AAA or even to be a starter in AA at this point (though I do imagine Bailey will be pushed up next season)
