We’ve seen a couple of players who made bigger leaps in 2022 as far as prospect rankings or status go, but did anybody really do more to advance their cause than Casey Schmitt? He entered the year having had a fitfully interesting, but somewhat disappointing season in Low A (complete with painful, season-ending injuries), and he ended it zooming up to Triple A with a bullet — a non-roster invite to big league camp, and a name that was on the lips of the highest decision makers in the organization. As spring training games get going, there’s probably not a hitting prospect in the system that fans are more eager to get their eyes on — and none they’re keener to dream on as a sneaky important part of the 2023 Giants team. And holy cow, did Schmitt get a jump start on cranking those fever dreams up to 11 in his very first outing!
